Lucknow. Senior police officials have announced a reward of Rs 25,000 on the rape accused who escaped from KGMU while undergoing treatment in police custody. Accused Haider Ali Baig is missing since June 12. Two teams of Chowk police are continuously raiding to search for him. According to Jailor Ritwik Priyadarshi, Haider Ali Baig, a resident of Chandipur village in Odisha’s Balasore district, was sent to jail from Sarojini Nagar police station in January last year on charges of rape, fraud and other sections. He was lodged in the district jail. On May 31, he was first admitted to the jail hospital after vomiting blood and his health deteriorated.
When his condition didn’t improve, he was referred to Balrampur Hospital on June 4th, and from there to KGMU. Head Constables Dinesh Kumar and Dharmendra Singh were on duty at KGMU to monitor Haider. During a morning check-up on June 12th, jail guard Nagesh Chandra Saroj reported that Haider had escaped from KGMU. The two policemen searched extensively, but found no trace of him. Based on the jailer’s complaint, a case has been registered against Dinesh Kumar and Dharmendra Singh at the Chowk police station for this negligence. Chowk police station in-charge Nagesh Upadhyay stated that after the case was registered, two teams have been formed to arrest the accused. Continuous raids are being conducted. Due to the lack of any trace of the accused, senior officials have announced a reward of 25,000 rupees for him.
