    The Lucknow Police have cracked a sensational murder case involving the mysterious death of a woman in the city’s Sahijna area. Entangled in an illicit relationship, a husband brutally murdered his wife with the help of his girlfriend and accomplices, subsequently dumping her body in the Gomti River to destroy evidence. Displaying prompt action, police arrested the accused husband and his girlfriend, recovering a Swift car used in the crime and gold-silver jewellery valued between eight to ten lakh rupees from their possession.

    A Clever Ploy: Registering a Missing Person Report to Mislead Authorities

    Thirty-year-old Anjali Singh, a resident of Sonic village in Unnao district, mysteriously disappeared from her home on the intervening night of July 30-31. To prove his innocence and divert the attention of police and family members, the cunning husband, Umendra Pratap Singh, visited the Rahimabad police station on July 31 itself to file a missing person report for his wife.

    The Mortuary Escape After Identifying the Body

    On the evening of July 31, an unidentified woman’s body was recovered from the Gomti River in the Itaunja area. When Rahimabad police took Umendra to the KGMU mortuary for identification, he identified the body as his wife, Anjali. Sensing that the legal noose was tightening immediately upon identification, Umendra gave police the slip and fled right from the mortuary out of fear of arrest.

    Brother’s Allegations and CDR Analysis Unravel the Plot

    The victim’s brother, Pushpendra Pratap, filed a formal complaint alleging that Umendra maintained illicit relations with another woman, and Anjali was subjected to torture whenever she opposed it. Acting on the brother’s suspicions, the Rahimabad police analyzed CCTV footage, mobile Call Detail Records (CDRs), and forensic evidence, exposing the entire conspiracy. Police swiftly arrested the accused husband, Umendra, along with his girlfriend, Aarti Verma, a resident of Madiaon.

    Raids Underway to Nab Other Accused

    Rahimabad Inspector Arun Kumar Trigunayat stated that the Swift Dzire car used in the murder, two mobile phones, and gold-silver jewellery worth lakhs have been successfully recovered. Police teams are conducting continuous raids to apprehend other co-accused named or surfaced during the investigation, and they will soon be sent behind bars.
