LUCKNOW: A spine-chilling and sensational incident has surfaced from the Para police station area in Uttar Pradesh’s capital, Lucknow. In broad daylight on Wednesday, an obsessed lover barged into his girlfriend’s house in the Narpat Khera locality of Para and brutally slit her throat with a knife, murdering her on the spot. Following the heinous act, the accused youth attempted suicide by inflicting multiple knife wounds on himself. The horrifying ordeal came to light when the victim’s elder sister returned home from college, and her screams sent shockwaves throughout the entire neighborhood.
Family Away in Amethi, Victim Alone at Home
According to police details, Shailesh Pandey, a resident of Narpat Khera under the Para police station jurisdiction, is a retired Subedar from the Indian Army and currently works with the NCC in Kanpur. His family includes his wife Kiran Pandey, two daughters Jagriti and Smriti, and a son, Sachindra. On Wednesday, other family members had gone to their native district Amethi to visit relatives, leaving only sisters Jagriti and Smriti at home. At the time of the incident, elder sister Jagriti had gone to college, leaving Smriti, a first-year BCA student at TS Mishra College, completely alone at home.

College Classmate Carried Out the Crime
The deceased, Smriti Pandey, and her classmate Devansh Pathak (a resident of Badshah Khera, Talkatora) had known each other for about two years. On Wednesday afternoon, Devansh suddenly entered the house and made his way to Smriti’s room. A heated argument broke out between the two, noises of which were even heard by some local neighbors. Enraged during the altercation, the accused Devansh grabbed a kitchen knife, slashed Smriti’s throat, and subsequently wounded himself with the same weapon.
Horrifying Discovery Upon Sister’s Return, Accused Taken Into Custody
Around 3:30 PM, when elder sister Jagriti returned from college, she walked into the room and was left paralyzed with shock. Her sister Smriti lay lifeless and bleeding, while classmate Devansh was writhing in pain with severe injuries. Panic-stricken, she rushed outside screaming to alert neighbors and family members.
Upon receiving the distress call, the local Para police station team rushed to the scene immediately. Police took possession of the victim’s body and sent it to the mortuary for a post-mortem, while the critically injured accused, Devansh, was rushed to Lokbandhu Hospital for medical treatment. Following his medical care, police took the accused into custody. The murder weapon (knife) has been recovered from the scene, and the victim’s mobile phone has been seized. A forensic team gathered crucial evidence from the spot, and police are investigating the underlying motive behind the murder based on formal complaints.
