8th Pay Commission: Commission to visit Bengaluru and Mumbai in October; key meetings with employees and pensioners scheduled—check the full timeline.

More than one crore central government employees and pensioners are watching the next phase of the 8th Central Pay Commission closely. The commission has now scheduled stakeholder interactions in Bengaluru and Mumbai in October 2026, as it continues consultations before finalising its recommendations on pay, allowances, pensions and service conditions.

According to the official 8th Central Pay Commission website, the commission will visit Bengaluru on October 7 and 8 and Mumbai on October 22 and 23. The Bengaluru visit notice was issued on August 24, while the Mumbai visit notice was issued on September 21. 8th Central Pay Commission

The meetings are part of a wider consultation exercise being conducted by the commission with employee associations, unions and other stakeholders. The panel has already held or scheduled interactions in several states and Union Territories, including Uttar Pradesh, Odisha, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Chandigarh and Rajasthan. The commission’s official calendar lists meetings with associations and unions, ministries and departments, along with state and UT visits. 8th Central Pay Commission

Bengaluru visit on October 7-8

The commission will be in Bengaluru for two days, on Wednesday and Thursday, October 7 and 8. The official notice said September 18 was the last date for seeking an appointment for the Bengaluru visit. Representatives seeking to place their views before the panel were required to apply through the prescribed process. 8th Central Pay Commission

The consultations are significant because employee organisations and associations can place their demands and representations before the commission while its recommendations are still being prepared.

Mumbai visit on October 22-23

The next major October engagement will take place in Mumbai on October 22 and 23. The official 8th CPC notice says October 10 is the last date for seeking an appointment for the Mumbai visit. 8th Central Pay Commission

The Mumbai programme also comes amid the commission’s wider effort to understand the working conditions and concerns of different categories of central government personnel, including employees associated with major departments and organisations.

The 8th Central Pay Commission was formally constituted by the government on November 3, 2025. Its composition includes former Supreme Court judge Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai as chairperson, Prof. Pulak Ghosh as part-time member and Pankaj Jain as member-secretary. 8th Central Pay Commission

The commission’s mandate covers a broad range of issues. It is examining the existing pay structure, allowances, retirement benefits and service conditions of central government employees. Its terms of reference also require it to consider the country’s economic situation, fiscal considerations, resources needed for development and welfare expenditure, and the likely financial impact of its recommendations. One important point for employees waiting for a salary revision is that the commission has not yet announced any final salary hike or fitment factor. The ongoing state visits are part of the consultation and data-gathering process, not an announcement of revised pay.

The government has given the commission 18 months from the date of its constitution to submit its recommendations. That places the formal deadline in 2027. The commission may also submit interim reports on specific matters if required. Press Information Bureau

The timing of implementation is therefore separate from the consultation schedule. A recommendation by the commission does not automatically mean that revised salaries will immediately appear in employees’ accounts. The recommendations would have to be examined and accepted by the government before implementation.

For now, October’s Bengaluru and Mumbai meetings are among the next visible milestones in the 8th Pay Commission process. Further details on recommendations, the fitment factor, revised pay matrix and the effective date will become clearer only as the commission completes its consultations and prepares its report.
