The trail of tragedies plaguing the family of mafia-turned-politician Atique Ahmed continues to unfold. Following the tragic death of Atique’s youngest son, Aban Ahmed, in a major road accident in the Jhansi district, the investigation has taken a new turn. Aban’s mobile phone has been missing ever since the crash. The police are actively searching for the device, utilizing call detail records (CDRs) and tower locations to track it down.

It is worth noting that Aban Ahmed and another individual lost their lives in a road accident in Jhansi district on Thursday. Three others travelling in the same car sustained injuries and were subsequently admitted to a hospital.

Aban Was Heading to Meet Imprisoned Brothers in Jhansi Jail

Additional Superintendent of Police (Rural) Arvind Kumar stated that Aban Ahmed, the son of the former Member of Parliament, was travelling with associates to visit his brothers lodged in the Jhansi jail. On the way, within the limits of the Punch police station area along the Jhansi-Kanpur National Highway, the speeding SUV lost control, rammed into a divider, and overturned.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) BBGTS Murthy stated that police received information regarding the incident at around 10:30 AM. He confirmed that Aban Ahmed (21) and his friend Sonu (25) died in the accident, while three others in the car sustained injuries.

Injured Victims Referred to Prayagraj from Jhansi

SSP Murthy stated that the injured occupants—Azam, Mohammad Javed, and Umar—were initially admitted to the Jhansi Medical College. All of them are residents of Prayagraj. Police initiated the investigation after sending the bodies for post-mortem examinations.

Later in the evening, following the persistent requests of the families, the three injured individuals were referred to Prayagraj. Relatives who arrived from Prayagraj took the injured back home in two separate ambulances.

High Speed Cited as the Primary Cause of the Crash

“One of the injured passengers informed us that the vehicle was travelling at a high speed and became uncontrollable before colliding with the divider,” officials noted.

Mohammad Umar, an injured friend of Aban who was inside the ill-fated car, told reporters that they were on their way to visit Aban’s brother in the Jhansi jail when the car lost control, resulting in the accident.

Police Scouring CCTV Footage and Funeral Arrangements

Police authorities stated that CCTV footage installed along the national highway is being examined to ascertain the exact causes of the accident. Aban’s body is expected to be laid to rest at the Kasari Masari graveyard in Prayagraj, where other members of his family were previously buried.

Aban Was the Youngest of Atique’s Five Sons

Aban Ahmed was the youngest of Atique Ahmed’s five sons and the twin brother of Ahzam. Among the other brothers, Umar and Ali are currently lodged in different prisons across Uttar Pradesh. Another son of Ahmed, Asad, was killed in a police encounter near Jhansi in April 2023. Asad was wanted in connection with the murder of Umesh Pal, the prime witness in the 2005 murder case of Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) MLA Raju Pal.

Atique Ahmed and his brother Ashraf were shot dead on April 15, 2023, by three assailants posing as journalists while police were escorting them for a medical examination at a hospital in Prayagraj.
