Apple has finally entered the foldable smartphone market with its first foldable iPhone Duo. Positioned as a premium device, the new iPhone combines a large foldable display with high-end hardware and a redesigned hinge mechanism. In India, the phone will start at ₹2,99,900, while the top-end 2TB variant will cost ₹4,49,900.
The iPhone Duo will be available in four storage configurations — 256GB, 512GB, 1TB and 2TB. Pre-orders are scheduled to begin on October 16, with sales starting October 23. Apple will offer the device in Star White and Night Sky colour options.
The 256GB model has been priced at ₹2,99,900, while the 512GB variant will cost ₹3,24,900. The 1TB version is priced at ₹3,74,900 and the 2TB model comes with a ₹4,49,900 price tag, making it one of the most expensive iPhones in the company’s lineup.
When unfolded, the iPhone Duo features a 7.6-inch Super Retina XDR display, claimed to be the largest screen ever offered on an iPhone. A 5.4-inch display is placed on the outer side for use when the phone is folded. Both screens support ProMotion technology, Always-On display and up to 3,000 nits of outdoor brightness.
Apple has also focused heavily on the construction of the device. The foldable iPhone comes with a titanium build and a precision-engineered hinge made using more than 100 components. The front display gets Ceramic Shield 2 protection, while the device carries an IP68 rating for resistance against dust and water.
On the camera front, the iPhone Duo features a dual-camera setup comprising a 48-megapixel Fusion primary camera and a 48-megapixel Fusion ultra-wide camera. Apple has added features designed specifically around the foldable form factor. These include Smart Tech, Duo Preview and the ability to use the rear cameras for taking selfies.
The software has also been adapted for the larger folding screen. Apple has developed iOS 27 with features such as Split View multitasking and new controls, allowing users to work with multiple apps and tasks on the expanded display. Apple Intelligence and Siri AI capabilities are also part of the device.
Powering the smartphone is Apple’s A20 Pro chip, paired with a custom vapour chamber for improved thermal management. According to the company, the device can deliver up to 35% better sustained performance compared with the iPhone 17 Pro.
Battery life has been another area of focus. The iPhone Duo uses a dual-battery configuration and Apple claims that it can deliver up to 24 hours of usage when both displays are used evenly. MagSafe wireless charging is also supported.
With the launch, Apple is taking its first major step into a smartphone category that has so far been dominated by Android manufacturers. The combination of a large foldable display, high storage capacity, A20 Pro hardware and software designed specifically for the form factor puts the iPhone Duo firmly in the ultra-premium segment.
