Monsoon is currently active with full force across a majority of the states in India. From the plains of North India to East India and the hilly regions, a continuous spell of rainfall is being witnessed. According to the forecast by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), this rainy spell is likely to intensify further in the coming days, providing people with major relief from humid weather.
Cloudy Skies and Light Rain Expected in Delhi
Monsoon has once again become active in the national capital. The meteorological department has predicted generally cloudy skies with light to moderate rainfall in Delhi today. The spell of light rain and drizzles is expected to continue over the coming days, specifically on August 21, 22, and 23. As for temperatures, today’s maximum temperature is likely to hover around 33 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature is expected to settle at 26 degrees Celsius.
Heavy Rain Alerts from Uttar Pradesh to Jharkhand and Bengal
Monsoon is currently showing immense bounty across Uttar Pradesh. Heavy rainfall and thunderstorms have been alerted today in several districts, including Muzaffarnagar, Meerut, Gautam Buddh Nagar, Mathura, Agra, Aligarh, Hamirpur, Jalaun, Jhansi, Lalitpur, Banda, Fatehpur, Kanpur, Etawah, Azamgarh, Pratapgarh, Chitrakoot, Prayagraj, Deoria, and Gorakhpur.
In Bihar, heavy rainfall and lightning warnings have been issued for multiple districts. Furthermore, due to the influence of a deep depression, the rainfall spell shows no signs of stopping in Jharkhand, West Bengal, and Odisha. Heavy rain and strong winds are expected to persist in parts of Odisha and Bengal over the next few days. Meanwhile, sudden active monsoonal conditions are also expected in various regions of Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, and Haryana.
Severe Weather in Hilly and Southern States
In the hilly states of Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, and Jammu-Kashmir, heavy rain and thunderstorm alerts have been issued for several districts, raising concerns over potential landslides and route disruptions. In Western India, heavy rainfall is anticipated in Konkan, Goa, and central Maharashtra through August 25. Rainfall activities are also expected to increase in Marathwada, Gujarat, and Saurashtra-Kutch.
Across northeastern states—including Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura—continuous rainfall is being observed, with isolated heavy downpours likely in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, and Meghalaya until August 25. In South India, heavy downpours and thunderstorms have been warned for Kerala, Karnataka, Telangana, and several regions of Tamil Nadu.
