Indian authorities took strict action by completely removing the external security perimeter outside the Pakistan High Commission. Traffic bollards, iron barricades, and unauthorized structures near the visa section of the diplomatic mission were dismantled and cleared using bulldozers and heavy machinery.
A Tit-for-Tat Move Following Islamabad’s Action
This swift and decisive action by India came exactly three days after Pakistani authorities removed security barricades and a security cordon stationed outside the Indian High Commission in Islamabad. Diplomatic and strategic analysts view India’s move as a direct and stern response to Islamabad’s actions. Authorities noted that the structures and queue-management barriers cleared were located outside the compound’s approved boundary on a public lane.
Deepening Tensions Over the Pahalgam Attack and Operation Sindoor
Bilateral relations between the two neighboring nations have remained severely strained. Last year, a tragic terror attack in Pahalgam claimed the life of 26 people, triggering massive outrage and heightened military friction. In response to the attack, India demonstrated strong military resolve by launching ‘Operation Sindoor’, targeting terror infrastructure across the border and in Pakistan-administered regions, with active military exchanges continuing until a ceasefire was reached on May 10.
Pakistan Rattled by US Envoy Sergio Gor’s Statement
Adding to the diplomatic friction, recent remarks by the newly appointed US Ambassador to India and Special Envoy for South and Central Asia, Sergio Gor, during his visit to Srinagar rattled Islamabad. Visiting the region for the first time in six years, the top US diplomat explicitly referred to Jammu and Kashmir as an “important part of India”. He praised the security steps and stability achieved by the Central Government and the local administration, while also hinting that Washington could review and downgrade its travel advisory for the region.

Incensed by the clear-cut US stance, the Pakistani Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned US Chargé d’Affaires Natalie Baker in Islamabad to register a strong demarche, calling the remarks “factually incorrect”. As Islamabad faces growing international isolation over its stance on Kashmir, the simultaneous removal of security perimeters outside its mission in New Delhi marks a fresh escalation in bilateral friction.
