Lucknow: A young man and woman were found hanging inside a guest house room in the Chinhat area of Lucknow on Tuesday, triggering panic in the locality. The couple had reportedly been staying at the guest house for nearly two weeks after leaving their homes and getting married through court, according to preliminary information.
The incident was reported from the Deva Road area under Chinhat police station. Police reached the guest house after its staff found that there was no response from room number 101. When the room was checked, the two were found hanging from a ceiling fan.
The deceased have been identified as Amit Kumar and Nargis, according to the preliminary information available. Police took possession of the bodies and sent them for post-mortem examination. A forensic team also reached the spot and collected evidence from the room as part of the investigation.
The couple had reportedly arrived at the Red Building Guest House on August 23 and had been staying in room number 101 since then. Their extended stay reportedly came to an end when a staff member went to check the room and received no response. The discovery of the bodies followed soon after.
Police officials said a marriage certificate was recovered from the room. Preliminary investigation suggests that the couple had left their homes and were staying together after their marriage. Investigators are examining the marriage documents, mobile phones and other belongings found at the spot to establish what happened before their deaths.
The circumstances leading to the deaths, however, remain unclear. Police have not indicated any confirmed reason behind the incident. Any possibility of family pressure, personal dispute or other circumstances will have to be established through the investigation rather than assumed at this stage.
The case has also raised questions about the couple’s movements during the nearly two weeks they stayed at the guest house. Investigators are likely to examine available records and other evidence to reconstruct their last days.
According to the DCP East, two bodies were recovered from the room and sent for post-mortem. The police are continuing their investigation based on the evidence collected from the scene, including the mobile phones and other articles.
The forensic examination and post-mortem report are expected to provide further information about the circumstances surrounding the deaths. Police are also examining the couple’s documents and other available evidence as part of the probe.
At present, the exact reason behind the apparent suicides has not been officially established. Further details are awaited as the investigation progresses.
