Lucknow: A two-year relationship between a young man from Hardoi and a 19-year-old woman ended in tragedy after the couple, who had married at an Arya Samaj temple, were found dead inside a guest house in Lucknow’s Chinhat area.

The couple had reportedly left their homes on August 21, the same day they got married. They later reached Lucknow and stayed at a guest house on Deva Road in Chinhat. Police recovered a note from the room in which the two reportedly said they were taking the extreme step on their own and requested that their families not be troubled.

The deaths have left both families devastated, while residents in the area are struggling to understand what led the couple to take such a step.

According to the information available, Amit Yadav had studied up to Class 12 and worked at a medical store located around seven kilometres from his village. A house directly opposite the medical store was where the 19-year-old woman, identified as Nargis, daughter of Usman, lived.

Their acquaintance gradually turned into a relationship. The two reportedly decided to leave their homes despite opposition from their families and social differences.

After reaching Lucknow, they stayed in room number 101 of the Red Building Guest House in Chinhat. They reportedly remained there for around 17 days, while attempting to deal with the situation back home. With money running short and no clear way forward, the situation apparently became increasingly difficult for them.

Police were informed after the couple was found dead inside the room. An investigation was subsequently launched to establish the circumstances surrounding their deaths.

The case also has a complicated legal backdrop. Nargis’s father had earlier registered a case of kidnapping against Amit. During the investigation, police recovered a bag from the premises containing clothes and other personal belongings. A keypad mobile phone was also found.

Among the belongings was a certificate issued after the Arya Samaj marriage, carrying the woman’s name as Nargis alias Pooja. The document has become an important part of the investigation as police examine the circumstances in which the couple left their homes and subsequently died.

No material was immediately recovered that could conclusively establish why the couple decided to end their lives. Police are examining the available evidence, including the note and other belongings recovered from the room.

On Thursday, the families reached the postmortem house to collect the bodies. Relatives were seen grieving outside the facility. Family members, while speaking about the tragedy, said both were adults and that they did not know what had happened between the couple before their deaths.

The incident has triggered discussion in the surrounding area about the pressures faced by couples when relationships run into opposition from family and society. At the same time, police are continuing to examine the case rather than drawing conclusions about the exact reason behind the deaths.

The bodies were handed over to the families after postmortem. Further details are awaited as the investigation continues.
