SITAPUR: A heart-wrenching incident has been reported from Biswan town in the Sitapur district, where a 6-year-old innocent child named Salman lost his life after being swept away in the strong current of rainwater flowing through an open drain. The tragic incident occurred on August 3 at around 6 PM near Pakka Katra (Joshi Tola Crossing) within the Biswan town area.

Swept Away Due to Heavy Rains

Due to incessant heavy rainfall, the water flow in the drain was extremely strong, causing the young boy to slip and fall right into it. Showing immediate alertness, local residents rushed to rescue the child, pulled him out of the drain, and quickly rushed him to the Community Health Center (CHC) in Biswan for medical treatment. However, upon arrival, the doctors declared him dead during treatment. The deceased child was identified as Salman, son of Iqbal, a resident of Joshi Tola under the Biswan police station jurisdiction.

Investigation Exposes Contractor’s Gross Negligence

Following the tragic mishap, the construction clerk and junior engineer (civil) of the Nagar Palika Parishad Biswan conducted an on-site inspection of the location. The official investigation report revealed that the stones and slabs of this drain, which was constructed a year ago by ‘M/s RR Construction’, were broken at multiple spots. The inquiry established prima facie gross negligence on the part of the contractor, which directly led to this major fatal accident.

Police Action and Legal Proceedings Against the Contractor

Acting on a formal complaint lodged by Nagar Palika construction clerk Ahmad Hussain, the Biswan Kotwali police have officially registered an FIR against Rahul Mishra, the proprietor of M/s RR Construction and son of late Chhannu Lal Mishra, a resident of Jhajjar on Mahmudabad Road, Biswan. The police have booked the accused under relevant sections and initiated further legal action.
